Camini. Domestic Presences in the Post-Technical Era
Spazio Vito Nesta – via Ferrante Aporti 16, Milan – April 18 – 26, 2026
From 18 to 26 April 2026, Sapiens Design Studio takes part in the exhibition Camini. Domestic Presences in the Post-Technical Era, curated by Paolo Casicci.
The exhibition questions the symbolic fate of the fireplace, a domestic archetype that contemporary heating systems have made seemingly obsolete, yet which survives as a place of gathering, storytelling and memory. Casicci invited designers and companies to rethink the fireplace as a scenic and spiritual presence, capable of fuelling that ambiguity between function and emotion that has run through the best of Italian design.
Sapiens Design Studio responded with Skia, from the ancient Greek for “shadow”, an object that turns the hearth into a domestic altar dedicated to memories. Through a surface treated with photoluminescent powder and a light source that casts the shadow of objects, Skia captures and holds the silhouette of whatever is placed inside it. When the light goes out, the imprint remains: a luminous absence that continues to be a presence. Just as embers keep radiating heat after the fire has died, holding onto the memory of the flame, Skia preserves the trace of everyday objects, restoring their dignity as silent witnesses to our existence.
The project was previewed during Milan Design Week 2026, within the exhibition Camini curated by Paolo Casicci at Spazio Vito Nesta.
